This was a forced photoshoot. I hate getting my picture taken and my hair was too short. I couldn’t find a top I was happy with. But as usual, I had a magical counterpart to pull it off.

About Me

What’s my story? Hmmmm…where to start. After completing my BA degree in Magazine Journalism at Columbia College and spending the first few years of my career working for trade pubs, I knew I wanted more. So I worked from the ground up—starting as a proofreader, working to editor and building my seniority as a copywriter. And after my second layoff, I was ready to take the freelance world by storm. For the last 9+ years I’ve worked with dozens of advertising agencies throughout the city and suburbs of Chicago, building a portfolio that covers the entire spectrum.

Now, on almost three years in Seattle, I’ve had the opportunity to continue building websites, working more and more with developers and UX teams, which is a constant learning experience. I’m always looking for freelance opportunities in both writing, UX and creative direction.

Recommendations

LinkedIn has been an integral tool to build my network in both Chicago and Seattle. I’ve been able to build my portfolio through projects I’ve picked up here and gain praise for the work I’ve done. Here’s some fun ones:

Brent Spore

Experience Designer

Brooke and I were tasked with rebuilding an entire creative, web and marketing presence for an international company. We had to not only dig deep into the current practices and processes but align them and augment them for the future. As we worked, I was always impressed by her ability to think about the tasks and come up with answers to questions that weren’t being addressed properly. It has been extremely refreshing to work with someone who truly cares about how things are spoken about and presented. Her expertise in copywriting and marketing has been more than valuable and her insight on the creative side has always proven to be spot on. I look forward to working with her again.

Leah Chamberg

Senior Copywriter at DDC Public Affairs

Much like Google or LinkedIn, I’ve come to think of Brooke Budwick as a resource. Yes, she’s a friend and a gifted writer, but she is also a database full of valuable information just waiting to be shared. And share she does. Apparently Brooke didn’t get the memo about writers being competitive because she has never been anything but giving, collaborative and encouraging. I think that it comes from her commitment to her craft and her well-deserved confidence in her abilities. Brooke just wants to usher good creative into the world and she doesn’t need to be selfish because she knows her talent will always open doors. Her years of experience are evident both in her work and the way that she carries herself. In the past few years I’ve come to rely on Brooke’s industry knowledge, value her expert opinion and treasure her friendship.

Victor Pinto

Former Supervisor at Sears Home Services

Brooke is a top-flight writer, thoughtful content strategist, self-motivated manager/leader of projects and has been a delight to work with for the past two years. She took on challenging initiatives at Sears, and as a key senior member of a user experience team increased engagement and conversion for Home Services and Parts Direct. On top of that, she made copy sing for those pragmatic brands. No small feat, but that’s why you turn to Brooke when there is a tough job to do. She’ll do the research, build the relationships and rock the creative like few can in this industry. She would be a fantastic addition to any team needing a results-focused, autonomous writer who operates at a senior lead/director level.

Norman Guadagno

Proven C-Level Marketing Executive

Brooke is so crazy smart and smartly creative that she will always bring a fresh perspective to any project. The role of ACD is a tricky one, requiring a balance between doing the creative work and guiding the creative process. Brooke finds the right balance and becomes a partner to others on the team, ensuring that the client is being served and that the work is really leveraging the expertise of the team. She is a pleasure to work with, a great contributor, and always full of creative insights coupled with light speed writing. I would eagerly work with her again.

Heather Rodin

CPM at Opentext

During the time that I worked with Brooke she proved to be incredibly helpful and knowledgeable leader. She always had an efficient strategy lined up to make our work go smoothly and was excellent in communicating her ideas to the rest of the team.

Within our large project Brooke was a successful risk-taker. She used unique ways to determine what the target market needs were and had the capability of tweaking her content accordingly.

As a pragmatic leader and a realist, she can grasp ideas in a holistic manner and still pay attention to minor details. Brooke is known as diligent and personable – two qualities that define her completely. As a creative thinker who possesses a can-do attitude, Brooke was a pleasure to work with. I recommend her for any design leadership position at any organization that chooses to take benefit from her diverse skills.
